Every part on the car that is not welded on was removed. Engine, transmission, rear end, interior, suspension, body panels, dash, all electrical all cables, lines for brakes and fuel, everything. It becomes a completely empty metal shell - the starting canvas. This picture shows a side view almost at tear down completion. Glass and interior pieces still being taken out.
Here the engine bay is almost empty. The photo library below contains pictures of all of the activities required to get V-Rex to this state. One of the challenges with V-Rex is that the engine bay is quite small and this constraint will dictate the type of power plant that we can stuff in here.
Here is a view from the rear with removal of the tailgate, rear window, bumper and most of the trim. Without the original rear bumper that back end of V-Rex is very unfinished. There is not a rear valence that you would find on todays cars bringing all of the panels together.
For those not familiar with this model, it is "unibody" construction - basically, the body is the frame. there is not a separate frame that the body sits on. This is a very important consideration when you start taking the body apart. You have to brace it so that it does not twist or bend. Having a lift is essential to this process.
