In the beginning...............

There was a desire to restore another 1966 Mustang fastback. It was always my favorite restoration project. But the original one that we loved had to go away when our children started driving. It just had too much horsepower and a lack of safety features for teenagers to drive. Here we are years later and when I mentioned to "the boss" that I wanted to build another one, she reminded me that whatever I built, it had to be safe and have room for the grandkids.

Thus started the search for the perfect "restomod" (restoration to modern) project. It had to be different. It had to have character. Well, why not a 1966 Volvo Estate wagon. Have you ever seen one? So your first question is probably, OK, I see something that looks like a beat up wagon on the right. What is the thing on the left. Ahhh, well a four door wagon would not be cool, would it? And Volvo did not make a two door model for this car. So as part of this build we will take the two door coupe on the left from the same year and meld them together to create a two door wagon.  And that is just the start. We are basically going to reimagine a 1966 Volvo wagon as if it were produced today. What would it look like? What would the stance be? What would the drivetrain be? What would a modern interior look like?

This site is primarily for my family and friends over at Turbobricks, a site filled with crazy people like me who want to create a cool car out of, well...............a couple of junkyard dogs. The wagon literally was brought out of a junkyard by the prior owner who was trying to restore it - a failed project). And the coupe suffered a deer strike and was badly damaged. So neither were viable stand-alone projects.

Along the way we will provide as much information on the build as possible so that others can learn - and contribute their ideas as well. This is a creative process at its heart so there will be many mistakes and do-overs along the way.   So let's start the journey. Some of the things we will be doing have been documented by folks that came before us. WE don't claim that everything that we do is going to be an original thought.

First the name. Well it is a Volvo, so "V". And we are going to build the baddest Volvo Estate wagon on the planet. And of course the grandkids love dinosaurs, and the baddest of all is T-Rex. So here we have V-Rex.

None of this is possible, NONE, without my good friend Johnny who has the shop, tools, materials, expertise and kindness to share and help guide this ambitious project. He's a one of a kind dude and I am so thankful for his friendship and guidance.

In this site, you will find pages arranged by topic. As we add to the progress for each topic will keep expanding each area of the site until we are done. Estimated Completion date is Qtr. 1, 2024. Welcome!
